Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the remarkable progress of Indian innovators, noting a significant increase in patents from approximately 4,000 in 2014 to nearly 50,000 at present. Speaking at the convocation ceremony of Bharathidasan University, he drew inspiration from the university’s motto, derived from Tamil verses by poet Bharathidasan, emphasizing the creation of a brave new world.

Modi commended Indian youth for contributing to this transformative world, citing achievements such as India’s presence on the global stage through missions like Chandrayaan. He celebrated the surge in patents and the global recognition earned by India’s humanity scholars, musicians, and artists.

The Prime Minister underscored the true purpose of education as giving back to society for a better future. He emphasized the importance of youth, describing it as synonymous with energy, speed, skill, and scale. Modi highlighted the country’s infrastructural advancements, including the doubling of airports and major ports’ cargo handling capacity.

Addressing the growing startup ecosystem, trade deals with significant economies, and India’s active role in global initiatives, Modi encouraged the youth to leverage the current opportunities. He acknowledged the need for constant learning and adaptation in a rapidly transforming world, asserting that individuals must either drive change or be driven by it.

In a historic moment, Modi became the first Prime Minister to address Bharathidasan University’s convocation since its establishment in 1982. During a brief interaction with students, he inquired about their interest in going to Delhi, eliciting positive responses. The Prime Minister paid tribute to the revolutionary Tamil poet Bharathidasan and participated in a group photograph with students, Governor R N Ravi, and Chief Minister M K Stalin.
