Last week, Jaipur unveiled a groundbreaking dedicated portal offering real-time updates on water levels in dams, reservoirs, and canal water availability across various regions of Rajasthan. This initiative aims to enhance water management efficiency and enable the prediction of floods and droughts.
During the portal’s launch, Water Resources Minister Suresh Singh Rawat emphasized Rajasthan’s pioneering status as the first state to introduce a system that openly shares water availability data with the public. Mr. Rawat hailed this development as a significant milestone in the state’s water and disaster management efforts.
Under the National Hydrology Project, the Water Resources Department has spearheaded the development of this system. Mr. Rawat highlighted that providing real-time water availability information would greatly aid farmers in Rajasthan, enabling them to better plan their crop cycles and irrigation strategies, particularly in a rain-deficient state like Rajasthan.
Mr. Rawat emphasized that monitoring rainfall, waterlogging, temperature, groundwater status, and surface water availability will significantly enhance the state’s water resource management in a sustainable manner. The portal will offer comprehensive data on 805 dams, daily updates on 242 dams, and real-time information on 88 dams, enabling informed decision-making and proactive measures.
