Amidst the chilly embrace of a dense fog blanketing the national capital, scores of people converged upon the Kartavya Path, following President Droupadi Murmu as she spearheaded the processions for India’s 75th Republic Day.
This milestone jubilee for India showcased a splendid amalgamation of culture, diversity, military prowess, and women’s empowerment, epitomizing the essence of ‘Viksit Bharat’ (developed India) and ‘Bharat – Loktantra ki Matruka’ (India – mother of democracy), led by the accomplished women of the nation.
Set against the backdrop of New Delhi, the celebrations saw French President Emmanuel Macron gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest.
The heart of India’s cultural richness was laid bare, with over 13,000 special guests participating, a testament to the ethos of ‘jan bhagidari’ (people’s participation) that permeated the event.
A striking feature of this year’s festivities was the prominent role of women, with 13,000 women taking center stage in a vibrant display of national strength.
In a historic first, the parade commenced with the melodies of Indian musical instruments, reverberating through the air, skillfully played by over 100 women artists.
The spectacle continued with the maiden appearance of an all-women Tri-Service contingent marching proudly down the Kartavya Path, while women pilots dazzled the audience during the Fly-past, symbolizing ‘nari shakti’ (women’s power). Even the contingents of the Central Armed Police Forces boasted solely women personnel.
At 10:30 a.m., Prime Minister Narendra Modi initiated the parade by paying homage to the fallen heroes at the National War Memorial.
Accompanied by the traditional buggy, the two Presidents, India’s and France’s, arrived at the venue escorted by the esteemed President’s bodyguard – ‘Rashtrapati ke angrakshak’, marking 250 years of dedicated service.
As the sun struggled to pierce through the fog, Major Saumya Shukla ASC unfurled the National Flag, accompanied by the resonant notes of the National Anthem and a booming 21-gun salute.
The parade, under the command of Parade Commander Lieutenant General Bhavnish Kumar, commenced with the President taking the salute, showcasing various gallantry awards and achievements.
Notably, the French Air and Space Force participated in the fly-past, underscoring the camaraderie between nations, while the Air Force tableau highlighted the essence of self-reliance with women crew members at the helm.
Delhi Police presented their first all-women contingent, adding to the spirit of the occasion.
The parade also featured captivating tableaus from different states and ministries, with a focus on women’s contributions and achievements.
The grand finale witnessed a spectacular fly-past, featuring diverse formations, symbolizing the indomitable spirit of the nation.
