Prabhas’ Salaar, having surpassed the Rs 400 crore mark in India, is set to make way for a wave of Sankranti releases this weekend. The film, marking Prabhas’ successful comeback since Baahubali 2: The Conclusion in 2017, faced challenges in recent years with a series of big-budget disappointments. Collaborating with KGF director Prashanth Neel, who delivered the massive hit KGF: Chapter 2 in 2022, Salaar now looks to conclude its theatrical run, reaching a total domestic collection of Rs 401 crore on its 21st day.
Benefiting from Prashanth Neel’s direction and the anticipation of a new franchise, Salaar’s success is underscored by its global performance, recently surpassing Rs 700 crore. Trade analyst Manobala Vijayabalan notes its position as the fourth-highest-grossing Indian film of 2023, trailing behind Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan and Pathaan, as well as the Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Animal.
Despite facing challenges in specific regional markets, Salaar remains a significant achievement for Prabhas and the industry. Looking ahead, Prabhas has a promising lineup, including the highly-anticipated Salaar 2, the dystopian sci-fi film Kalki 2898 AD, Spirit directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, and an upcoming project helmed by Maruthi. As Salaar concludes its theatrical journey, the Telugu industry anticipates the release of Mahesh Babu’s Guntur Kaaram and the mythological superhero film HanuMan, further enriching the cinematic landscape.
