Chennai Super Kings lost the bid for signing South African fast bowler Gerald Coetzee. Mumbai Indians bought Coetzee for ₹5 crore
During the Dubai auction on December 19, the five-time IPL champion, Chennai Super Kings, aggressively pursued New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell and Rachin Ravindra. Chennai Super Kings successfully acquired young all-rounder Rachin Ravindra for ₹1.80 crore, surpassing his base price of ₹50 lakh and outbidding Punjab Kings in the process.
Despite entering the bidding late, Chennai Super Kings managed to secure Daryl Mitchell amidst intense competition from Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals. The franchise finalized the signing of Mitchell for a substantial amount of ₹14 crore.
In addition to Mitchell and Ravindra, Chennai Super Kings also added Shardul Thakur to their squad for ₹3.60 crore. Shardul Thakur, who was released by Kolkata Knight Riders, found a spot in the Chennai Super Kings roster.
However, the team missed out on signing South African fast bowler Gerald Coetzee, as Mumbai Indians successfully acquired him for ₹5 crore.
