The Congress party’s potential promises in its 2024 Lok Sabha manifesto include implementing a foolproof system to prevent paper leaks during professional recruitment exams, granting allowances to unemployed youth, providing cooking gas cylinders at ₹450, and offering education loans at low interest rates. On March 5, former party chief Rahul Gandhi, in a post on X, highlighted the importance of safeguarding the future of the youth by ensuring a secure system against paper leaks.
“In just the past seven years, over 70 instances of paper leaks have shattered the aspirations of over 20 million students. Not only does this waste their valuable time in shaping their futures, but it also imposes financial hardships and mental anguish on their families,” he remarked.
The Congress leader emphasized the necessity of holding every level accountable and putting an end to the criminal collusion between an indifferent government, corrupt officials, cheating mafias, and private printing presses. “By consolidating inputs from various sources, the Congress is formulating a robust and infallible strategy to ensure transparency in youth recruitment processes. Soon, we will unveil our vision, dedicated to safeguarding the future of students. We will not allow the future of our youth to be compromised!” he declared.
On the second consecutive day, Tuesday, the Manifesto Committee convened to refine the draft manifesto, placing significant emphasis on employment and livelihood concerns.
Confirming its pledge to fill approximately 10 lakh vacant government positions, the party aims to prioritize vocational training and apprenticeship programs to align the workforce with the evolving demands of the international job market.
Additionally, the party will reaffirm its dedication to abolishing the Agnipath recruitment scheme and restoring the previous system for the armed forces.
There will be dedicated attention to women’s issues, with proposed assurances such as monthly financial aid and potentially discounted travel opportunities.
As previously reported by The Hindu, ensuring the minimum support price becomes a legal entitlement and conducting a caste-based census will be significant components of the manifesto.
Regarding farmers, rather than offering loan waivers, the Congress will guarantee an increased minimum support price and commit to eliminating the goods and services tax (GST) on agricultural tools and equipment.
