On March 31, Union Home Minister Amit Shah initiated the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Lok Sabha election campaign in Rajasthan by organizing a grand roadshow in Sikar. Prior to this, Mr. Shah, during his two-day visit to Jaipur, convened a gathering of party leaders and cluster in-charges representing five Lok Sabha constituencies in the city.
Accompanied by Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and BJP candidate Swami Sumedhanand, Mr. Shah joined a vibrant roadshow in an open jeep. The procession included a multitude of chariots, bands, horses, camels, and adorned vehicles bearing tableaux and images of senior party figures, trailing behind his vehicle.
Commencing from the Shri Kalyan temple, the roadshow traversed through New Dujod Gate, Ghantaghar, and Jat Bazaar, culminating at Tapriya Bagichi, covering a distance of approximately two kilometers in over an hour. Throughout the route, BJP supporters showered flowers at Mr. Shah’s vehicle and chanted slogans in solidarity with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other party leaders. Mr. Shah reciprocated the enthusiasm, exchanging greetings and waving at the gathered crowds.
Two-time MP Mr. Sumedhanand is contesting in the Jat-dominated Sikar seat against the candidate from the INDIA bloc and Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leader, Amra Ram. The Opposition Congress, which holds five of the eight Assembly constituencies in Sikar, has formed an alliance with the CPI(M) for the Lok Sabha seat.
Sikar is one of the 12 seats scheduled for polling in the first phase on April 19. It is also the hometown of Pradesh Congress Committee president Govind Singh Dotasra, who represents the Lachhmangah Assembly segment in the district.
Prior to his participation in the roadshow, Mr. Shah addressed a meeting of the party’s cluster core committee and BJP leaders from the Lok Sabha constituencies of Dausa, Karauli-Dholpur, Nagaur, Churu, and Jhunjhunu in Jaipur. According to sources within the BJP, Mr. Shah provided guidance to the leaders regarding the election campaign strategy, emphasizing the importance of strengthening booth management and ensuring the active involvement of every party worker in poll-related activities.
