Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has shared his perspective on actor Chiranjeevi being honored with the Padma Vibhushan this year, expressing the belief that the actor deserved greater recognition. In a social media post, Ram stated that he is unfamiliar with other Padma Vibhushan recipients such as Padma Subrahmanyam and the late Bindeshwar Pathak, implying that Chiranjeevi, affectionately known as the Megastar, doesn’t quite fit into this category.
Ram conveyed on X that if Chiranjeevi finds satisfaction in being included in the list, he will also accept it.
In a tweet, Ram expressed, “I’ve never heard of Shri Padma Subrahmanyam or Shri Bindeshwar Pathak, so to place them on the same pedestal as the MEGA STAR, I’m not particularly enthused about the award. However, if @chirutweets sir is content, I’ll join in the celebration.”
Ram’s tweet stirred varied reactions among netizens. While some criticized the filmmaker for seemingly overlooking the contributions of accomplished individuals, others defended his right to express opinions on the list of Padma awardees. Padma Subrahmanyam is celebrated for her mastery in Bharatnatyam, while Bindeshwar Pathak gained recognition for founding Sulabh International and was posthumously awarded the Padma Vibhushan.
Chiranjeevi was among the five recipients of the Padma Vibhushan award. In his expression of gratitude, the “Indrani” star shared a video message where he conveyed his speechlessness upon receiving the honor. He expressed, “I am truly overwhelmed, humbled, and grateful. This moment is made possible only by the unconditional love of my audience, my friends, and my family. I owe everything to you. Throughout my 45-year career, I have endeavored to entertain you to the best of my abilities on screen. I have also strived to contribute to meaningful social and humanitarian causes, assisting the less fortunate in any way I can.”
Chiranjeevi expressed gratitude towards PM Narendra Modi, acknowledging that despite his modest contributions to the film industry, he received a significant honor. He conveyed his indebtedness to his fans for their unwavering love and support. Alongside Chiranjeevi, actor Vyjayanthimala Bali was also honored with the Padma Vibhushan from the realm of cinema.
Numerous members of the Telugu film industry, including Chiranjeevi’s son Ram Charan, conveyed their congratulations on social media, while others personally met the veteran actor to extend their wishes.
