Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, the chief of Dera Sacha Sauda and a convicted rapist, has been granted a 50-day parole, according to official sources. This parole comes two months after his release from Sunaria jail in Haryana’s Rohtak district on November 21 of the previous year, where he was granted a 21-day furlough—his third temporary release in 2023.
During this parole period, Singh is set to visit the Dera Sacha Sauda Ashram in Barnawa, located in Uttar Pradesh’s Baghpat. The Dera chief is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence for the rape of two of his disciples.
This recent parole adds to a series of temporary releases Singh has received over the past years. He was previously granted a 30-day parole on July 30, 2023, a 40-day parole in January of the same year, and another 40-day parole in October 2022. In June 2022, he had a month-long parole, and earlier in 2022, a three-week furlough was granted on February 7.
In 2021, Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, along with four others, was convicted for conspiring to kill Ranjit Singh, a Dera manager. Additionally, in 2019, the Dera chief and three others were convicted for the murder of a journalist that occurred more than 16 years ago.
